Top Restaurants in Kauai: A Guide to Dining on the Garden Isle
Kauai, Hawaii’s Garden Isleand, is not only famous for its lush landscapes and pristine beaches but also for its exceptional culinary scene. From casual beachside eateries to fine dining establishments, Kauai offers a wide variety of dining options that showcase fresh local ingredients, unique flavors, and stunning views. In this guide, we’ll share where to eat during your visit to Kauai.
On our recent trip to Kauai, we quickly learned that the food on the island is VERY expensive. We decided to treat ourselves to a few fancy meals, but sprinkled in more affordable options also. My husband and I stayed 5 nights at the luxurious Grand Hyatt Kauai in Poipu. We booked this trip using *mostly* our credit card points, so we had a little bit of extra money to spend on some restaurant splurges. Read more about our stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai here.
Whether you are on your honeymoon or traveling with a family, Kauai has food options for every type of traveler. This is definitely not a comprehensive list, just where we ate during our time on the island:
1. The Beach House Restaurant $$$$
For a memorable dining experience with an oceanfront view, The Beach House Restaurant in Poipu is a must-visit. Situated right on the beach, this spot offers breathtaking sunset views and a menu full of delicious seafood dishes.

Although beautiful, this restaurant feels frozen in time from the early 90’s. The decor could use a refresh, but the view is timeless. The restaurant includes outdoor seating to watch the sunset as you sip their delicious cocktails!
We ordered the Macadamia Nut-Crusted Mahi Mahi and the Seared Tuna. We loved the food, the drinks, the atmosphere, and of course the ocean views. A pricy option, but worth a splurge on vacation!

Location: 5022 Lawai Road, Poipu, Kauai
- Why Visit: Incredible ocean/sunset views, fresh seafood, and romantic atmosphere
- Tip: Parking is tricky and must make a reservation in advance!
2. Tidepools at the Grand Hyatt Kauai-$$$$
Tidepools is an upscale restaurant located at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa in Poipu, on the south shore of Kauai. Read more about our stay at this resort here. The restaurant is renowned for offering an exceptional dining experience with a beautiful setting, featuring open-air seating and views of a tranquil lagoon surrounded by lush tropical landscaping.
The restaurant’s unique setting is one of its most distinctive features. Guests are seated in private, huts built over a lagoon, which provides a serene and romantic atmosphere. The tropical environment, complete with koi fish swimming in the water beneath your feet, creates a memorable dining experience, especially during sunset.

- Why Visit: Romantic atmosphere, special occasion meal, unique setting
- Tip: Must make a reservation in advance!

3. Koloa Fish Market-$$
The Koloa Fish Market is a popular, local seafood market and casual eatery located in Koloa, on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. It is well-known for offering fresh seafood, local Hawaiian dishes, and takeout options for both locals and tourists. The market is highly regarded for its commitment to quality and for providing an authentic taste of Kauai’s fresh catch.
This poke takeout stand ended up being our favorite meal (actually meals, we visited twice!) of the trip. The fish was extremely fresh, the portions were huge, and it was not insanely priced! You can customize your poke bowl and mix and match the different types of food and sauces.he The market offers several traditional Hawaiian dishes, such as plate lunches, which typically consist of rice, macaroni salad, and a protein (like grilled fish or fried shrimp). These dishes are perfect for a quick, hearty meal.

This ended up being our favorite place to eat in Kauai!
- Why Visit: Fresh seafood, local cuisine, large portions.
- Tip: No seating, standing line only
4. Koloa Pizza Kitchen and Bar-$$
It is no secret that the food in Hawaii is expensive. After a few nights of splurging on fancy dinners, we opted for a cheaper alternative. We drove into the town of Poipu for a casual evening. This pizza place was very crowded even on a weeknight! We waited almost an hour for our table here, so I would recommend getting there as early as possible for dinner. We walked up and down the strip of stores and gift shops while we waited. The pizza was delicious and not outrageously priced like the rest of the food in Kauai!
- Why Visit: Casual atmosphere, family friendly, affordable option
- Tip: Put your name down early and shop the gift shops while you wait!

5. Keoki’s Paradise
Keoki’s Paradise is a more casual option for families. The space is filled with tropical plants, waterfalls, and tiki-inspired accents, giving it a quintessential Hawaiian vibe. With both indoor and outdoor seating options, diners can enjoy a relaxed meal while taking in the beauty of Kauai’s island scenery. The outdoor dining area is particularly popular in the evening when guests can listen to live Hawaiian music and watch the sunset.

- Why Visit: Live music, family friendly, casual atmosphere, located near other shops
- Tip: Reservations in advance
